After a surprising victory over England, Iceland hoped to pull off another upset at Euro 2016. However, France had other thoughts and in the 13th minute Giroud gave France the lead. Pogba then followed with a powerful header to double France's lead. With the two goal advantage within 20 minutes, France stunned the Icelandic players. The hosts became the first team to score 4 goals in the first half at the European championships.

Iceland looked much better in the second half, and scored a consolation goal in the 56tg minute. But France quickly responded, when Giroud's header from Payet's cross found the back of the net. The second half was more of an even battle as both teams created chances to score. With the match settles, Iceland scored one final goal in the 83rd minute, ending their Euro 2016 campaign on a high note.
