Mexico defeated Iran 75-70 in Group A of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and mathematically sent Greece to the knockout round. Mexico and Greece will play tomorrow for first place in Group A.
Mexico’s late comeback was enough to give them the victory over Iran in Group A of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. With the win, Mexico secured their place in the knockout phase of the tournament. Additionally, the win sends Greece through to the next round as Iran is eliminated after their second loss from two games. Greece defeated Iran yesterday 78-53.
Greece and Mexico will play tomorrow for first place in the group. The winner of the group will play the runner-up from Group B (Italy, Croatia, or Tunisia) in the first knockout game. Italy and Croatia are the heavy favorites to advance from Group B and Greece will need to defeat both teams in the knockout phase to qualify for the Olympic Games.
