Portugal 2 - 0 Wales
Ronaldo 50'
Nani 53'

Fernando Santos is leading Portugal to European Glory!! Portugal defeated the Cinderella story team, Wales, 2-0 to advance to the Euro 2016 final. Ronaldo opened the score with a powerful header and Nani scored Portugal’s second, securing Portugal’s win. They will await the winner of the second semi-final between Germany-France.

The first half was quite dull with neither team creating a classical chance to score. Portugal dominated the possession of the half, but the better opportunities fell to Wales.

After a goalless first half, the game came to life after the restart. A great cross from Raphael was met by a powerful, unstoppable header from Ronaldo, giving Portugal the 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, a deflected shot from Ronaldo was set on a plate for Nani, who gave Portugal the 2-0 lead. With Santos implementing the compact defensive tactics that he is known for, Wales failed to get back in the game. Portugal scuffed out Wales’ attacking play and Portugal comfortably controlled their advantage. The clock ticked to the 90th minute and Portugal advanced to their first European Cup Final since 2004.

Portugal will now await the winner of the second semi-final between Germany and France. Portugal will hope to win their first European Championship after losing to the 2004 final to Greece. Wales’ dream run at Euro 2016 comes to an end after finishing first in Group B (ahead of England) and defeating both Northern Ireland and Belgium in the knockout phase.
