Byron Kokkalanis has qualified for the Medal Race in the Men’s RS:X Sailing event. The Greek athlete will start in 5th place for Sunday’s final.

After a great performance in the 12 preliminary races, Byron Kokkalanis claimed 5th place and advanced to Sunday’s medal race in the Men’s RS:X Sailing event. In today’s final three races, he finished in 12th in the 10th race, 11th in the 11th race, and 10th in the 12th race. He currently has 78 point deductions with Pierre le Coq from France (72 point deductions) and Poitr Myszak (70 point deductions) from Poland sitting in 4th and 3rd place. Nick Dempsey (GBR) and Dorian van Rijsselberghe (NED) are way ahead with only 44 and 23 point deductions.

The final race will be held on Sunday, consisting of the top 10 athletes from the preliminary races, and the point deductions will count double. The points and standings from the preliminary rounds carry over to the medal race. With Kokkalanis in 5th place, he will be a contender for a medal on Sunday.
