Daily Preview: Greece Rio 2016 Olympics (Day 10, Monday, Aug 15)

All CAPITALIZED sports are considered Final or Medal Rounds.

Greece will have two big opportunities for a medal today. Eleftherios Petrounias is the favorite for the GOLD medal in the Men's rings while a big jump from Kostas Filippidis in the Men's Pole Vault could lead to another Greek medal. Kelli Araouzou will also contend for a medal in the Women's 10km swimming marathon.



SWIMMING – Women's 10km Marathon, FINAL (8:00 AM): Kalliopi Araouzou
***Araouzou will compete in the Women's 10km Swimming Marathon. There is no qualifying round. Araouzou will be a contender for a medal with a good showing.

Track & Field – Women’s 200m Dash, Heat 4 (8:48 AM): Maria Belibasaki
***Maria Belibasaki will hope for a place in the competition's semi-finals with a good run in Heat 4 of the qualifying round.

Synchronized Swimming – Women’s Duet, Preliminary (10:00 AM): Papazoglou & Platanioti
***The Greek duo finished in 10th place in the Free Routine for the Women's Synchronized Duet preliminary round and will perform their technical routine tomorrow with hopes of a top 8 overall finish, leading to a place in Tuesday's final. 

Sailing – Men’s 470, Preliminary Races 8-10 (12:05-2:55 PM): Kagialis & Maniatis
***Kagialias & Maniatis are currently in 3rd place before today's final 3 races of the preliminary round. They will look to stay in 3rd place going into the medal race. 

GYMNASTICS - Men's Rings, FINAL (1:00 PM): Eleftherios Petrounias
***All eyes will be on Eleftherios Petrounias in today's Men's Rings Final Round. The current World & European Champions finished 2nd in qualifying but will be the favorite for the gold medal!

Track & Field – Women's Discuss Throw, Qualifying Group A (7:30 PM): Hrisoula Anagnostopoulou
***Anagnostopoulou will look for a place in the event's final which is scheduled for Tuesday night. 

TRACK & FIELD – Men's Pole Vault, FINAL (7:35 PM): Konstantinos Filippidis
***Filippidis finished 2nd in qualifying and will be a heavy contender for a medal in today's Men's Pole Vault Final. The Greek athlete is due for a big jump and if it comes today he will find himself on the podium!

Track & Field – Men's 110m Hurdles, Heat 4 (8:04 PM): Kostas Douvalidis
***Douvalidis will look for a place in the event's semi-final with a top 2 finish in today's 4th heat. 

*Please note that Heats are considered qualifying rounds while FINAL rounds are the “medal” rounds.
