- ONE JUMP ENOUGH FOR STEFANIDIS -
Katerina Stefanidis has secured her place in the Women's Pole Vault Final Round! One jump of 4.60 meters was enough for Stefanidis to progress to Saturday's final.
In today's qualifying round of the Women's Pole Vault event, a jump of 4.60 meters or a top 12 finish would lead to a place in the Final round. Stefanidis decided to skip the lower distances and attempt at 4.60 meters. She successfully cleared her first jump and progressed to the Final Round!
Stefanidis is the current European Champion in the event and is one of Greece's hopes for a medal at the Olympic Games. Additionally, one of the favorites of the competition Fabiana Murer from Brazil failed to qualify for the final after three missed attempts at 4.55 meters. The Brazilian athlete has recorded the best jump this year at 4.87 meters, only one centimeter above Stefanidis' best at 4.86 meters. The final will take place on Friday 7:30PM.
A reminder that Nicole Kyriakopoulou did not compete in the event due to an injury after the European Championships.
