Panathinaikos defeated AIK 0-2 in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying round and progressed to the next round, winning 3-0 on aggregate. The Greek club put on a great showing in Sweden with Ibarbo and Berg scoring second half goals.
Panathinaikos had the clear advantage to progress before today's game after winning the first leg 1-0 in Greece. AIK started off as the better side but after the 10 minute mark, Panathinaikos controlled the game. The first half had no notable chances for either team and the score remained goalless.
Panathinaikos could not have asked for a better start to the half when a great pass from Berg set up Ibarbo, who's powerful left-footed strike found the back of the net. The goal came 25 seconds into the second half, giving the Prasini the 0-1 lead (0-2 aggregate) and all important away goal. AIK needed 3 goals to progress with their only good chance of the game coming in the 65th minute when Ishizaki's free-kick was stopped by the crossbar. Panathinaikos secured their victory in the 73rd minute when Berg's well-placed strike doubled the Greek club's lead. The final 15 minutes were played out with Panathinaikos advancing to the Europa League Playoff Qualifying Round.
It seems that Panathinaikos has surpassed their shock from last year' Europa League Qualifying when they were eliminated by Qabala from Azerbaijan. The Tryfilli will be seeded in tomorrow's Europa League draw and will find out their opponents in the Playoff Qualifying Round.
