The Possible Opponents for Olympiacos, PAOK, and Panathinaikos.

- The Possible Opponents for Olympiacos, PAOK, and Panathinaikos -

Greece continues with three representatives in Europe, all competing in the UEFA Europa League Playoff Qualifying Round, as one opponent stands in the way of the Group Stage for Olympiacos, PAOK, and Panathinaikos. The 3 Greek teams are seeded and will find out their opponents in tomorrow’s draw (7:00 AM, EST).

After both Olympiacos and PAOK were eliminated in the the 3rd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Champions League, the two teams will compete in the Europa League Playoff Qualifying Round. It will be the first time in 20 years (only the second time ever) that Greece will not have a representative in the Champions League Group Stage.

Panathinaikos defeated AIK to progress to the Europa League Playoff Qualifying Round while both AEK and PAS Giannina were defeated after their losses in the second leg.

All three Greek teams will be seeded for tomorrow’s draw and will have a theoretically easier opponent in the playoff qualifying round. Olympiacos will enter as the 2nd highest seed (behind Shakhtar Donetsk) with PAOK falling behind in 7th place and Panathinaikos in 19th (out of the 22 seeded teams). All three Greek teams will be considered favorites with whomever they draw as Rosenborg, Astana, and Astra stand out as the more “difficult” opponents.

The unseeded group consists of teams that could prove to be tricky if underestimated. Olympiacos can travel to Israel again, this time to face Beitar Jerusalem, or be paired with their “brothers” from Belgrade, Crvena Zvezda. Panathinaikos can face last year’s opponents Qabala, who left them out of Europe in August of 2015. There is always the scenario of playing AEK Larnaca from Cyprus, who surprisingly eliminated Spartak Moskva.

The draw will be held at 7:00 AM (EST) or 2:00 PM Greek time and will be streamed live from The seeded and unseeded groups will be divided into sub-groups and will be announced by UEFA before the draw takes place.
