- Both Greek Boats Qualify for the Final! -
Greece went 2/2 in today’s semi-finals of the Rowing events and will have two representatives in Thursday’s finals! Asoumanaki and Nikolaidou progressed in FIRST place in their semi-final race in the Women’s Double Sculls and shortly thereafter, the Men’s Coxless Lightweight Four team qualified for Thursday’s final in third place.
Asoumanaki and Nikolaidou completed a great race in today’s semi-finals in the Women’s Double Sculls, finishing first in their race. Their time in today’s race gives Greece high hopes for another medal in Thursday’s final. The Greek athletes finished in 6:51.99 with Lithuania (6:52.46) and Great Britain (6:52.92) behind them. Poland claimed overall first place in the semi-finals with their time of 6:50.63 in the other race. The final is scheduled for Thursday at 9:04 AM.
Like Asoumanaki and Nikolaidou, the Greek Men’s Coxless Lightweight Four team also earned their ticket in the Event's Final. S. Ntouskos, I. Petrou, S. Giannaros, P. Magdanis finished their semi-final race in 3rd place with a time of 6:23.95 behind Switzerland (6:17.85) and Denmark (6:19.62). The Greeks are a mini-surprise in the event as their team was recently formed to take the place of Russia’s team that did not participate in Rio. Greece will look for another medal in the final which is set for Thursday at 9:44 AM!
