- GOLDEN Deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo -
Giannis Antetokounmpo has became the highest paid Greek athlete ever! The “Greek Freak” signed a 4-year, $100 MILLION contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. The new deal put Antetokounmpo in the top 20 of highest paid players in the NBA and the second highest paid European player ever.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s first contract with the Milwaukee Bucks was signed in 2013 when he was the #15 draft pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. That contract, which offers Antetokounmpo roughly $3 million a year, is set to expire in 2017. With Antetokounmpo classified as one of the NBA’s rising stars, the Milwaukee Bucks see him as the “franchise” player and offered him a contract extension, until 2021, totaling $100 Million in four years! Today, Antetokounmpo put pen to paper on the new deal, with the contract taking effect in 2017. The deal is the largest in the Buck’s franchise history, making Antetokounmpo the highest paid Greek athlete EVER!
Antetokounmpo will now be one of the highest paid players in the NBA ahead of LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Paul George, Klay Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins, Draymond Green, and others. Additionally, he will become the second highest paid European in the NBA’s history (based on annual earnings) only behind Dallas Mavericks’ star Dirk Nowitzki.
Milwaukee Bucks coach, Jason Kidd stated “We expect Big things from Giannis. With eyes on the future, we see him as the best player in the NBA.” After signing his new contract Antetokounmpo stated “I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I don't say this just for the media but from the bottom of my heart. I know after this five years, hopefully, we'll be doing great, and I'll be here five more years. As I said last summer, I want to be here for 20 years. I don't like change, anyway. ” Last season, the Greek player averaged 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game in a total of 80 games.
