Panetolikos 0 - 0 Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos dropped their first points of the season after their 0-0 draw in Agrinio against Panetolikos. It was a poor showing from the Prasini as they were unable to create much on the attack although their goal was wrongly called off late in the first half.

The opening 10 minutes were quite entertaining with both teams missing opportunities to score an early goal. For the visitors, Berg saw his shot barely miss the target while Lud was denied by Kyriakidis. On the other end, Steele made a great save to keep Tomane from finding the back of the net. After the 15 minute mark, the pace of the game dropped as both teams failed to create chances to score. Late in the first half, Ledesma’s pass found Berg, who played it across to Lud in front of an open goal (and found the back of the net), but the linesman wrongfully called offsides on Berg and the teams went into the break goalless.

In the second half, Panathinaikos controlled the possession and created opportunities while Panetolikos was well organized and disciplined in the back. Kyriakidis denied Berg’s clever back-heel attempt from a corner in the 68th minute and Tomane cleared the ball off the line from Lud’s header to keep the scores at 0-0. In the final 20 minutes, the stubborn Panetolikos defense kept their composure and left little room for Panathinaikos to create one final chance to steal all three points. The final whistle came and the Prasini dropped their first points of the season with today’s goalless draw.

The home side will be happy with the result as Panathinaikos will leave Agrinio in disappointment. The Trifylli sit on 7 points in the Greek SuperLeague standings while Panetolikos has 4 points. Next week, Panathinaikos will look to return to victories when they host Asteras Tripolis as Panetolikos travels to undefeated Platanias.
