Larissa bagged an IMPORTANT three points in their quest to avoid the drop after their 2-1 comeback victory over Veria. The Vyssini were left with 10-men in the 59th minute when Dodo was sent off with a second yellow card.
It was a battle for Superleague survival as Larissa hosted Veria at the AEL FC Arena. Soon after the opening whistle the game was suspended for 16 minutes due to heavy smoke produced from the flares in the stadium.
After the delay, the match resumed as both teams posed a threat in the opposing half. The breakthrough came in the 8th minute of first half stoppage time when Calvo freed himself in the penalty area with his shot finding the back of the net, giving Veria the 0-1 lead.
Larissa came out of the locker rooms on a mission and nine minutes into the second half, Gallego equalized for the hosts with his header from Rentzas’ cross. Minutes later, Dodo almost gave Larissa the lead, but his cross/shot hit the the crossbar and stayed out. The hosts were handed a blow in the 60th minute when Dodo was sent off with his second yellow card of the game, leaving his side with 10 men for the final half-hour.
However, the Vyssini wanted all three points and in the 81st minute, they were given a lifeline when Nazlidis was fouled in the box as the referee pointed to the penalty spot. From 11-meters, Nazlidis converted the spot kick to give Larissa the important 2-1 comeback victory over Veria.
The win moves Larissa five points clear of the relegation zone as Veria sit second from bottom with 8 points. Larissa will travel to Crete over the weekend to face Platanias while it will be a duo between the two last placed teams in the Superleague when Veria hosts Iraklis.
