Apollon Smyrnis are the new league leaders in the Football League after their 0-1 victory over Kissamikos, while Lamia was handed their first defeat of the season falling to Panegialios 1-0. OFI was also defeated on Wednesday by Agrotikos Asteras as Chania and Panserraikos defeated Panthrakikos and Acharnaikos.

Apollon Smyrnis took advantage of both Lamia’s and Aris’ slip ups as they sit alone atop the Football League standings after their 0-1 win against Kissamikos in Crete. Antonis Petropoulos scored the only goal of the match in the 54th minute, adding his name to the score sheet for a second consecutive match.

Lamia’s first conceded goal of the season proved to be costly as they were handed their first defeat of the season, falling to Panegialios 1-0 in Aigio. The only goal of the match was scored in the 59th minute by Tsiligiris. The loss moves Lamia down to second in the standings, one point behind the new league leaders Apollon Smyrnis.

Like Lamia, OFI got off to a rough start to 2017 as they were defeated 2-1 by Agrotikos Asteras. Koukoulis gave Agrotikos Asteras the lead in the 29th minute with his headed goal and in the 52nd minute, Milosavljev equalized for OFI from the penalty spot. However, nine minutes later Gesios scored the eventual winner, handing OFI their second defeat of the season. Today’s result keeps sixth placed OFI six points behind Apollon Smyrnis while third placed Agrotikos Asteras trail Apollon by only four points.

Chania pulled off a surprise result in Komotini as they defeated Panthrakikos 0-2. Both goals came in the second half with Petrousis’ own goal in the 69th minute opening the scoring and a goal in second half stoppage time from Stamatis sealed all three points for the Cretan club. The win just moves Chania out of the relegation zone as they sit with 6 points while Panthrakikos have 7 points from eight matches.

In Serres, a 24th minute penalty from Kanoulos gave Panserraikos the 1-0 victory over Acharnaikos. The loss keeps Acharnaikos on 14-points, six behind the league leaders, while Panserraikos trail their opponents by only one point in the standings.

Both Sparti and Trikala continue to sit mid-table in the standings after their goalless draw in Sparti.

Both Aiginiakos and Kalloni did themselves no favors as they played to a goalless draw. Both teams have gotten off to a slow start to the season and are early candidates for relegation to the third division.

Panelefsiniakos will be happy to walk away with their second draw and point of the season as they draw Anagennisi Karditsas 0-0 on the road. Panelefsiniakos sit at the bottom of the standings with 2 points as Anagennisi Karditsas have eight points (11th place).
