GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 2
|Xanthi||0 - 2||Olympiacos|
Olympiacos increased their lead to 12-points in the Greek Superleague after their 0-2 victory over second placed Xanthi. Despite the very cold conditions in Xanthi (-4 Celsius), Ideye opened the scoring in the 38th minute and Milivojevic put the game out of reach with his goal one minute from time. Both teams were left with 10-men after both Lisgaris (unprofessional foul on Seba) and Seba (off the ball foul on Sultani) were sent off with straight red cards.
The temperatures were below freezing at the Xanthi FC Arena as second placed Xanthi hosted first placed Olympiacos. The first half saw the visitors take control of possession and it was Ideye who opened the scoring in the 36th minute. The ball fell nicely to the Nigerian striker who made no mistake from the top of the penalty area to give Olympiacos the 0-1 lead. In the 44th minute, Younes wasted a great opportunity to pull Xanthi level before the break, but his shot from 11-meters went agonizingly wide.
The first notable action of the second half resulted in two sending offs as Lisgaris and Seba were handed straight red cards. The Xanthi player committed an extremely hard and unprofessional foul on the Brazilian winger resulting in a sending off while Seba hit Sultani (from his frustration), leaving his team with 10 men.
Olympiacos sealed all three points in the 89th minute when Milivojevic’s brilliant freekick found the back of the net, giving the visitors a 0-2 victory.
With today's win, the Erythrolefki bring an end to Xanthi’s 5 game winning streak (11 unbeaten) in the Superleague, increasing their lead a top the standings to 12 points. On the other hand, Xanthi remain in second place on 22 points, tied with Panionios.
