Kitsiou Provides the Breakthrough for PAOK

Panetolikos 0 - 2 PAOK
Kitsiou 77'
Athanasiadis (p) 84'

Two goals in the final 15 minutes from Kitsiou and Athanasiadis gave PAOK the 0-2 victory over Panaitolikos for the first leg of the Greek Cup Round of 16. The win comes after a disappointing defeat over the weekend in the Superleague.

After a frustrating loss to PAS Giannina over the weekend, where PAOK created countless opportunities to walk away with an easy victory, the Dikefalos tou Vorra looked for the all important away goal (and win) as they traveled to Agrinio to face Panetolikos in the Greek Cup Round of 16 (first leg). Although it took 77 minutes of play, the breakthrough finally came for PAOK as Kitsiou made no mistake from close range to give the dikefalos a 0-1 lead.

The “breakthrough” goal opened up the way for PAOK to score their second, when Mystakidis was fouled in the penalty area and from the spot, Athanasiadis gave his side the 0-2 lead in the 84th minute.

The hosts did not pose a threat to PAOK in the 90 minutes of play, with the heavy rainfall affecting the playing conditions for both teams. PAOK scored two goals from only eight chances, bringing a sigh of relief after wasting numerous chances against PAS Giannina on Saturday.

The 0-2 scoreline stood at the final whistle as PAOK will look to finish the job at home in the second leg in two weeks.
