-- PLATANIAS HOLD OLYMPIACOS AGAIN --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 11
|Platanias||2 - 2||Olympiacos|
|Ideye 4', 13'
Olympiacos saw their recent winning run brought to a halt by plucky Platanias as the Cretan club fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw at the Perivolia Municipal Stadium on Saturday. This marks the second season in row where Platanias has held Olympiacos to a draw in Crete.
All the goals came in a thrilling first half, with two early goals from Olympiacos’ in-form striker Brown Ideye in the fourth and 13th minutes – the Nigerian frontman’s 11th and 12th strikes of the season, putting Paulo Bento’s side in total command.
His first came in fortunate circumstances when the big striker blocked home defender Yaya Banana’s attempted clearance and the ball ricocheted into the net, while his second was a tap-in following next interplay between Marko Marin and Alberto de la Bella.
Those strikes were not enough to secure a fourth win on the bounce for Paulo Bento’s side, however, as the hosts refused to give up and their determination was rewarded with two goals in four minutes just before half-time.
Striker Giorgos Giakoumakis was the first on target in the 36th minute, shrugging off the challenge of Brazilian defender Bruno Viana before firing a low, powerful shot past Olympiacos goalkeeper Nicola Leali.
The impressive Giakoumakis was in the thick of the action for Platanias’ second four minutes later, winning a penalty after being felled by Leali, with the resulting spot-kick clinically converted by Giorgos Manousos.
The win keeps Olympiacos in first place of the standings, 13-points ahead of second placed Panionios, Xanthi, and Panathinaikos. Platanias, who have been in good form of late, remain mid-table with 21 point.
