-- THE WOODWORK SAID "NO" --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 17
|Larissa||0 - 0||Platanias|
Larissa dropped more points at home after failing to break the deadlock against Platanias in their SuperLeague Matchday 17 encounter at the AEL FC Arena on Sunday. Despite the two team sharing 19 shots and hitting the crossbar on 3 occasions, the match ended goalless
The Vissini were in need of a victory to help ease their relegation worries, and Sakis Tsiolis’ team started well with Serbian forward Miloš Deletić stinging the palms of Platanias goalkeeper Antonis Kokkalas early on.
Defender Vasilis Rentzas then went agonizingly close to opening the scoring when his 29th-minute effort hit the woodwork.
AEL’s Cretan opponents enjoyed their best spell of the game mid-way through the second half, and the Chania outfit levelled up the woodwork score when Ukrainian defender Vitaliy Pryndeta’s shot cannoned off the post before going wide.
The same player hit the woodwork again with four minutes left as a dejected home side found themselves defending in the closing stages rather than going for a late win.
The result left Larissa just two points from safety down in 13th place, while Platanias are comfortable in eighth spot with 22 points.
