Apollon Smyrnis continued their quest for Superleague promotion as they defeated Lamia 1-0 in Sunday’s derby. Sparti, Chania, Kallithea, Trikala, and Anagennisi Karditsas earned victorious while Panegialios and Kallithea played to a draw.

Apollon Smyrnis came away with a difficult 1-0 home victory over second placed Lamia to increase their lead atop the Football League standings. The only goal of the game was scored in the 13th minute through Romano. Apollon Smyrnis have been the most in-form team in this year’s Football League and are the favorites to gain one of the two promotion places to next year’s Superleague. They currently lead second placed Aris by four pints with a game in hand while Lamia drop to third, five points behind Apollon Smyrnis.

In a rough match that produced two red cards, Sparti celebrated victory for the first time in a while by thumping Panserraikos 3-0. Iliopoulos opened the scoring from the penalty spot and he added Sparti’s second just before the halftime whistle. Bountopoulos capped off a great night for the hosts with a third goal as his club are tied for 8th in the standings after today’s win.

Agrotikos Asteras’ promotion hopes suffered a blow after a disappointing 2-0 loss away to Anagennisi Karditsas. Both goals were scored in the opening five minutes as Anagennisi Karditsas move out of the relegation zone.

Chania came away with an emphatic win over bottom of the table Kalloni, who look more and more as relegation favorites. ALL four goals came in the first half as the hosts took their foot off the gas in the second half. The win pushes Chania up to 10th in the standings, further away from the relegation zone while Kalloni remain on 6 points from 13 games.

Kallithea continued their undefeated streak with a 2-0 win at home against Kissamikos. Both teams lies just a few points above the relegation zone.

Similar to Chania, Trikala also had an easy night against another struggling side in the Football League, defeating Panelefsiniakos 4-0. After three first half goals from the hosts, Maroukakis added a fourth for Trikala as they move up to 6th with 18 points. Panelefsiniakos are tied at the bottom of the table with Kalloni.

Aiginiakos could not hold onto their 0-1 lead on the road against Panegialios, with the hosts equalizing through Skartsilas in the second half. The two teams earned a point from a 1-1 draw pushing Aiginiakos into the relegation zone while mid-table Panegialios sit comfortably in the standings.

Acharnaikos received all three points against Panthrakikos, who withdrew themselves from the league earlier this week due to financial problems.
