-- Olympiacos Cruise to Victory --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 19
|Olympiacos||3 - 0||Iraklis|
SuperLeague champions-elect Olympiacos kept their 13-point lead at the top of the table intact on Sunday after cruising to a straightforward home victory over Iraklis at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium.
Goals from Bruno Viana, Tarik Elyounoussi and Kostas Fortounis proved enough to see off a struggling Iraklis team, who huffed and puffed against the reigning champions but did not have enough quality to trouble Stefano Kapino’s goal.
Paul Bento’s men clinched their 15th three-point haul in 19 games, and there is little to suggest they will drop enough points to allow themselves to be caught in the run-in by the chasing pack, which is lead by second-placed Panionios and third-placed PAOK.
It was pretty much all one-way traffic in Sunday’s late match, with Viana’s early strike in the second minute setting up an easy night for the hosts. The Brazilian defender evaded his marker to plant a firm header past his countryman Huanderson from Seba’s corner and from then on the home side never looked like relinquishing their lead.
Olympiacos in fact doubled their advantage three minutes before half-time with a goal that made in Portugal and finished by Norway. Neat interplay between Portuguese pair Andre Martins and Diogo Figueiras ended with the latter sending over a cute cross for Norwegian midfielder Tarik Elyounoussi to head home.
The hosts continued to control proceedings after half-time, and a third goal came 11 minutes after the restart when Fortounis turned in the rebound after Iraklis’ goalkeeper Huanderson had parried Brown Indeye’s shot.
