-- Olympiacos Release Maniatis --
Olympiacos have officially terminated Giannis Maniatis’ contract as the player becomes a free agent.
As expected, Giannis Maniatis is no longer a player of Olympiacos. The club announced the parting of ways between the two sides as Maniatis’ contracted was terminated over the weekend. The Greek midfielder has been a “foreign soul” at the club and was not in Paulo Bento’s plans for the season.
Maniatis only made one appearance this year and it was in the club’s first game of the season in a 0-0 draw against Hapoel Be’er Sheva in UEFA Champions League qualifying.
Maniatis signed with Olympiacos in 2011 from Panionios, making 152 appearances for the club (mostly as a starter) while scoring 11 goals and giving 20 assists. In recent years, he was the team’s captain. With the Erythrolefki, he won six Greek SuperLeague titles and 3 Greek Cups.
He is also an active member of the Greek National Team and will quickly look for a new club in hopes of keeping Michael Skibbe’s trust for Greece's upcoming qualifier against Belgium in March.
Maniatis thanked Olympiacos for the unforgettable moments he had with the club via instagram.
