Aleksandar Prijovic struck again after coming off of the bench, leading PAOK to a 1-2 victory in Xanthi for their first leg Greek Cup quarterfinal clash. Mystakidis opened the scoring in the first half and Lazic equalized for the hosts seven minutes after the restart.
PAOK continued their TREMENDOUS form of late as they recorded their 13th win from 14 matches by defeating Xanthi 1-2 at the Pygadia Stadium. Mystakidis, who had a great showing in the first half, gave PAOK the lead in the 20th minute by getting the final touch on Biseswar’s cross. PAOK kept their 0-1 lead into the halftime break.
Seven minutes after the restart, Xanthi brought the game on level terms when great team play from the hosts set up Lazic in the penalty area and his perfectly placed shot beat Glykos.
Vladan Ivic’s side clearly wanted to walk away with the win and return to Toumba with the lead as Prijovic was subbed on shortly after the equalizer. PAOK’s new signing quickly made an impact as his powerful shot from outside the penalty area re-gave PAOK the lead in the 63rd minute. For a second consecutive game. Prijovic scored off the bench for the Dikefalos tou Vora.
Despite falling down to 10-men in the 70th minute (Henrique received a second yellow card), PAOK was able to hold onto the 1-2 victory, making them without a doubt the clear favorites to advance to the semifinals of the competition.
PAOK will host Xanthi in three weeks for the second leg with hopes of clinching their place into the next round.
