-- Maniatis Signs with Atromitos --
After being released last week from Olympiacos, Giannis Maniatis will continue his career in Greece with Atromitos.
The former Olympiacos captain signed a six month deal with Atromitos. The contract does include an extension clause if the two sides decide to continue their partnership at the end of the season.
Maniatis made only one appearance this season with Olympiacos (first game of the season) and quickly fell out of Paulo Bento’s roster plans. The Greece international terminated his contract with the Erythrolefki last week and decided to stay in Greece for Atromitos.
The signing will highly strengthen Atromitos’ midfield as they look to make a late push for a playoff spot. Greece coach Michael Skibbe will welcome the news of Maniatis’ signing with Atromitos as he plans to call up (and start) Maniatis in Greece’s qualifier against Belgium next month.
Maniatis will look to quickly find his form and make his SuperLeague debut this season with his new club. He will face his former club, Olympiacos, in the second leg for the Greek Cup quarter-finals and also in league play on March 12 at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
