-- Six-Goal Thriller in Chania --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 20
|Platanias||3 - 3||PAS Giannina|
|Conde 9', 58'
Platanias and PAS Giannina showed there’s life in the SuperLeague beyond the traditional ‘Big Four’ after an enthralling match between the two teams ended in a 3-3 draw in Chania on Sunday.
The Matchday 20 contest at the Perivolia Municipal Stadium had been billed as a showdown between two sides wallowing in mid-table mediocrity, but the 90 minutes in Crete proved otherwise.
Having fallen 2-0 behind to two goals in the first 11 minutes from PAS’ Spanish forward Pedro Conte and Greek-born New Zealand defender Themistoklis Tzimopoulos, the hosts pulled level before half-time via Giorgos Giakoumakis (32’) and Giannis Kargas (40’).
Belarus forward Mikalay Signevich, on loan from BATE Borisov, then delighted the home fans by putting Platanias 3-2 in front six minutes after the break, only for Conte to level the match with his second of the night for PAS seven minutes later.
Both teams had chances to win it, but in the end a draw was a fair result on a night when football was the real winner. So much for mid-table mediocrity then.
The result means that Platanias and PAS remain in seventh and eighth place with 29 and 28 points respectively.
