Two strong second half performances from Panathinaikos and Olympiacos gave the eternal rivals the victory over Kymi and Kolossos Rodou in their Greek Basket League Round 17 clashes.
A strong second half performance gave Panathinaikos a comfortable 54-77 victory over Kymi for their Greek Basket League Round 17 clash. The Trifylli increased their lead to as many as 31 points (68-37) and took their foot off the gas in the final quarter knowing that an important fixture awaits them on Sunday when they face Aris in the Greek Cup Final.
Pascual gave playing time too many players with four of them finishing the game with double digit points. Bourousis had 13 points, Gentile 10 points (all in the third quarter), Calathes 11 points, and Singleton put up 10 points. Panathinaikos’ record is now 16-1 as they trail Olympiacos (16-1) due to their disadvantage in the head-to-head tiebreaker. Kymi are in now in the relegation zone with their 5-12 record only above bottom of the table Doxa Lefkadas.
Koroivos put up a good fight for 23 minutes against Olympiacos, but the Erythrolefki stepped up their game in the third quarter to come away with a 59-70 victory. The hosts did manage to pull ahead by six points early in the second half before Olympiacos took over the game.
Papanikolaou (13 pts), Birch (11 pts), and Printezis (11 pts) were the best players for the visitors while Hall (13 pts) and Reddic (10pts) were the leading scorers for Kolossos. Olympiacos continue to lead the way in the standings as Kolossos and PAOK are tied for 5th place.
