Panionios leapfrogged Panathinaikos into second spot on Sunday with another solid home SuperLeague victory, this time a 1-0 success against lowly Iraklis in their Matchday 20 encounter in Nea Smyrni.

Vladan Milojevic’s Panthers, easily one of this season’s surprise packages, have not lost since Matchday 9 and were never in danger of doing so here after El Fardou Ben Nabouhane’s 39th-minute goal.

That strike came just seven minutes after the visitors were reduced to 10 men following Giorgos Saramantas’ dismissal for a wild tackle on Panionios midfielder Manolis Siopis.

The second half was largely one-way traffic with Iraklis struggling to contain the home side with a numerical disadvantage. Despite having an extra man for just under an hour, Panionios could not add to their lead but their fans went home happy with another three-point haul which keeps them on Olympiakos’ heels.
