With three games remaining in group play, Olympiacos secured their place in the LEN Champions League Final-6 with today’s 10-8 win over German side Spandau.
For yet another season, Olympiacos will be present in the LEN Champions League Final-6 after mathematically securing their place into the next round of the competition with a 10-8 win over Spandau. The Greek Champions dominated the early parts of the match as they took a 4-0 lead in the first period and maintained their 4-goal advantage at halftime (7-3).
The visitors, who rallied a 4-0 run of their own, managed to pull within two goals late in the game (9-7), however Olympiacos’ leading scorer on the night, Fountoulis, sealed all three points with his goal to give Olympiacos a 10-8 victory in the end.
Fountoulis scored four goals for the hosts while Delakas and Janovic each added two goals. Pavic also came up with big saved in the Olympiacos goal.
The result keeps Olympiacos atop the Group A standings after seven games, with six wins and one draw. Olympiacos will now look to finish first in the group standings which leads to an automatic place to the semi-finals of the competition (Final-4). The Greek side will battle it out with Szolnok for top spot when the two teams pair up on the second to last matchday in group play.
Olympiacos’ next match in the Champions League will be on March 22 when they travel to bottom of the table Nice.
