First Time in 21 Years Three Straight Defeats for Olympiacos
On Sunday, Olympiacos was handed a third consecutive defeat in the Superleague for the first time in 21 years after falling away to PAOK 2-0.
PAOK defeated Olympiacos 2-0 in Thessaloniki, bringing new life into this year’s Superleague title race. The win brought PAOK within 8 points of the league leaders while Panionios trail by seven points and will face AEK tomorrow in Nea Smyrni.
As for Olympiacos, the result marks their third consecutive defeat in league play after previously falling away to AEK and at home against Panionios. The last time Olympiacos suffered three straight defeats in the league was in 1995/1996 (21 years ago), the last season of Olympiacos’ “stone ages.” Then, Olympiacos lost on Matchdays 29-31 to Panathinaikos 1-0, Apollon Athinon 3-0, and away to OF1 2-1.
Additionally, the last time Olympiacos lost three consecutive games WITHOUT scoring a single goal was back in 1984!
