Olympiacos defeated AEK 63-70 in Monday’s Basket League derby and the Erythrolefki are now the clear favorites for first place in the regular season. Matt Lojeski came up big for the visitors with 17 points.
On a night where Spanoulis had a an off game, Matt Lojeski came through for Olympiacos leading his side to a 63-70 win over AEK in Monday’s Basket League derby. The third quarter was a critical point in the game where Olympiacos’ defense shut down AEK’s attack and on the other end, Lojeski gave Olympiacos a comfortable 11-point advantage (41-52).
The Erythrolefki held their commanding lead for most of the fourth quarter before AEK pulled within four points (58-62) with 3:30 left to play. However, the visitors kept their composure and increased their lead to eight points with the final score ending at 63-70 in favor of Olympiacos.
Lojeski led Olympiacos with 17 points while Printezis finished the game with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. Spanoulis had an off night with only 2 points and 1 assist. AEK, who were handed their first home defeat of the season, were led in scoring by Dixon (14 points) as Mavrokefalidis added 11 points for the Enosis.
The win makes Olympiacos the clear favorites to claim first place in the Basket League regular season as today’s fixture was their toughest (theoretically) until the end of the season. Olympiacos have a 20-1 record while third placed AEK drop to 16-5.
