Besiktas Fans Celebrate to Zorba
The fans of Besiktas celebrated to the song Syrtaki after their club's fourth goal and after the final whistle, in a provocative gesture from the Turkish side.
On Thursday, Olympiacos were heavily defeated by Besiktas in their second leg fixture for the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 and were eliminated from the competition. After Besiktas scored their fourth goal, essentially putting the game out of reach, the Syrtaki song (better known as Zorba) was played through the loudspeakers of the Vodafone Arena as the fans mockingly celebrated their club's triumph over the Greek side.
At the final whistle, the song was once again heard throughout the stadium with fans cheering and clapping along to the beat as the Olympiacos players exited the pitch. Of course it was not a coincidence that Zorba was played after Besiktas’ victory, with the Turkish club not wasting the opportunity to “mock” the Greek side.
