Xanthi Are NO Joke...

Xanthi 3 - 1 Iraklis
Younes 26', 71'
Triadis 61'
Pasas 10'

Xanthi picked up their second consecutive SuperLeague victory on Wednesday with a comfortable home win over basement boys Iraklis which moved Răzvan Lucescu’s side to within eight points of leaders Olympiacos.

The match did not start in the ideal way for the hosts with Giannis Pasas opening the scoring for Iraklis.

But Tunisian forward Hamza Younés struck twice for in-form Xanthi, first with a 27th-minute penalty, then added his second 19 minutes from time to seal the three points after Panagiotis Triadis had already put the hosts in front just after the hour mark.

Xanthi finished the match with ten players after Kostas Fliskas was dismissed for picking up two yellow cards two minutes from time, while the visitors also missed a penalty a minute later with Zivko Zivkovic saving Leozinho’s spot-kick.

Xanthi now sit in second place, trailing Olympiacos by only eight points (drew away to Asteras Tripolis), after recording their seventh win in eight games. Iraklis remain bottom of the table as they inch closer to relegation.
