Panathinaikos made an easy win difficult as they almost gave up a 21-point lead in Thessaloniki against PAOK. In the end, the visitors came away with a 68-72 victory, moving their record up to 12-1 in this year’s Basket League.

After a close first quarter (19-20), Panathinaikos began to pull away in the second period as they increased their lead to 15 points going into halftime (27-42). The third quarter was played at a slower pace while Panathinaikos continued to dominate the hosts, reaching their biggest lead of the game at 21-points (33-54).

However, the large margin between the two teams did not discourage PAOK as they slowly trimmed Panathinaikos lead to five points (60-65) with just over a minute remaining in the game. Singleton’s free throws gave Panathinaikos a 60-67 advantage before Sibert and McFadden brought PAOK within 3-points (64-67)! The hosts could not complete the comeback as their was not enough time left on the clock and Panathinaikos celebrated the 68-72 victory.

Singleton came through in the end for Panathinaikos and finished the game with 15-points (13/14 from the free-throw line) and 13-rebounds. Calathes led Panathinaikos with 16-points, 8-rebounds, and 4-assists. Sibert and McFadden headed PAOK’s comeback in the fourth quarter as they finished the game with 18 and 16-points, respectively.

The win brings Panathinaikos’ record in the Basket League to 12-1 before their midweek Euroleague encounter against Anadolu Efes. PAOK move down to 7-6, tied with Kolossos Rodou for 5th place.
