AEK Larnaka chalked up the most impressive victory over the weekend, defeating the defending champions APOEL 3-1 in Larnaka. AEK were clearly the better side in the first half and took a two goal advantage into the halftime break thanks to Taulemesse’s double. Sallai’s great strike pulled one back for the visitors, however Acotan’s late goal sealed the three points for the Larnakeis. AEK are well in the title hunt after eight rounds of play while APOEL fall further behind continuing their poor start to the season.

Omonoia took the second derby of the weekend defeating AEL Limassol 1-0 in Nicosia. Leandro Gonzalez’s 73rd minute header separated the sides at the final whistle sending Omonoia into 6th place in the standings while AEL remained behind in 8th.

Pafos FC continued their impressive form with a 4-0 win over Nea Salamina. Bruhls opened the scoring in the 29th minute and the hosts kept their slight lead into halftime. In the second half, the First Division new-boys netted three goals with Fylaktou, Roguljic, and Deul for the emphatic win. Pafos, who were relegation favorites at the start of the season, surprisingly sit in 3rd place while Salamina sit in a disappointing 12th place.

Doxa thrashed Alki with a 5-0 scoreline as they continue to show much improvement from last season. All five goals were scored in the second 45 minutes, where Zatl netted a hat-trick and Gomes and Sadik also added their names to the scoresheet. The result moves last year’s relegation bound Doxa into 4th place.

Anorthosis continue to lead the way in the Cypriot top flight after their narrow 2-1 victory over Ethnikos Achnas. Palanca put the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute, but eighteen minutes before the end, Anorthosis brought life to the home stadium with Kapiani’s equalizer. The goal gave momentum to the league leaders and in the 84th minute, Schildenfeld’s goal gave Anorthosis another three points in their fight for this year’s title.
It was a dramatic ending in Nicosia as Olympiacos defeated Ermis 2-1. Although the visitors were the better side, a stellar freekick from Elder Castro gave Olympiacos the lead in the 53rd minute. Ermis grabbed a well-deserved equaliser just before stoppage time with Tsoumou, however a last minute penalty kick for Olympiacos was notched home by Samaras to give his side an important three points.

Alex Da Silva’s spectacular freekick in the 66th minute gave Apollon a slender 1-0 win over Aris. The result leaves a struggling Aris side in last place as they seem to be an early favorite for relegation. Apollon sit in 6th place with 12 points from six matches.
