It was a great night for Greek basketball in the FIBA Basketball Champions League on Tuesday with AEK and PAOK notching key wins to progress to the Round of 16…

Watch AEK and Olympiacos battle it out for a place in the Greek Cup semi-finals during the return leg at the OAKA stadium.

Greece will be well represented in the FIBA Champions League Round of 16 after massive wins for AEK and PAOK helped the pair of clubs extend their campaign on the final day of action in the group phase.
Needing a win in order to progress from a tight Group C, AEK pulled-off a stunning fourth quarter comeback to shock medi Bayreuth for an 83-81 win at OAKA. Despite trailing by 9 points (66-57) heading into the fourth quarter, AEK responded with a massive final frame to clinch a spot in the Round of 16 on the heels of a late dagger from Dusan Sakota. The win sees AEK finish the group phase with an 8-6 record, which sees AEK finish third in Group C despite a four-way tie for third spot along with Bayreuth, Movistar Estudiantes, and Umana Reyer Venezia – though only Bayreuth will join AEK, Banvit, and SIG Strasbourg as the four sides to qualify out of the group. Highlights can be found here.
PAOK’s path to the Round of 16 had all the ingredients to be as dramatic as AEK’s clinching, but the Thessaloniki side pulled no punches in an 80-59 beat down of Ventspils. PAOK’s bench came to life with Vangelis Margaritis’ 13 points leading the way, while Lucky Jones (11 points, 13 rebounds) and Ousmane Krubally (12 points, 10 rebounds) each added a double-double. The win was cemented by a strong fourth quarter in which PAOK limited Ventspils to just five points in order to clinch third place in Group B and join Iberostar Tenerife, MHP Risen Ludwigsburg, and Neptunas Kalipeda as the four qualifiers out of Group B. Highlights can be found here.
AEK and PAOK will now await the result of the Round of 16 draw in order to find out who they’ll face in a two-legged playoff starting on 6-7 March..
