For the first time since the 2004/2005 season, AEK will complete the Super League season without losing to either Olympiacos or Panathinaikos. The Enosis defeated Olympiacos 3:2 at home before a dramatic 2:1 win in Piraeus, while AEK equalised in the final minute at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium to take a 1:1 draw with Panathinaikos and achieved a convincing 3:0 triumph against the Prasini at the OAKA.
In 2018, the Kitrinomavri have only conceded one goal at home in the Super League, with that coming in a 3:1 victory against PAS Giannina on January 14. Since that game, hosts AEK have beaten Lamia (2:0), Asteras Tripolis (1:0), Xanthi (4:0), Panionios (1:0) and Panathinaikos (3:0) in consecutive games without letting any goals in. Panagiotis Tsintotas was between the sticks in four of those matches, as Vasilis Barkas made his home Super League debut this season against Panathinaikos.
AEK are now unbeaten in 18 successive Super League fixtures. Incredibly, the club’s last loss in the domestic championship was back on October 23 against Atromitos Athens, a game which AEK lost 0:1 in front of an empty Olympic Stadium. This has equalled the achievement of 18 consecutive games undefeated set in the 1989/1990 season. However, the overall record is 31 games in a row without defeat from the 1977/1978 campaign.
Scoring AEK’s second goal, right-back Rodrigo Galo netted his first Super League marker since he scored in a 3:0 win against Platanias on August 22, 2015. Incidentally, that game with Platanias was Galo’s debut for the Enosis. Nevertheless, the Brazilian has scored twice in the Greek Cup between 2015 and 2018.
After returning to the Super League in 2015, the Enosis have defeated Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and PAOK in 11 of the 13 matches against these opponents at the Olympic Stadium in Athens.
3:0 is AEK’s joint largest victory against Panathinaikos. In the 1982/1983, 1996/1997 and 2005/2006 seasons, AEK also defeated the Greens by a three-goal margin.
