AEK return to winning ways against Lamia
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 19
|AEK||2 - 0||Lamia|
AEK Athens got back into the winning groove on Saturday by beating Lamia 2-0 thanks to goals from Lazaros Christodoulopoulos and Marko Livaja.
Christodoulopoulos opened the scoring for Manolo Jimenez’s team after 40 minutes at the Olympic Stadium, while Croatian marksman Livaja struck three minutes after the hour mark to wrap up a straightforward victory for the Kitrinomavri.
After losing ground in the title race in last weekend’s goalless draw at Larissa, it was imperative for AEK to claim maximum points tonights, especially since they have two season-defining matches coming up against Olympiacos.
The first of those is a SuperLeague Athens derby next Sunday at the Georgios Karaiskakis, before the two teams meet for the return leg of the Greek Cup quarter-final clash three days later at the Olympic Stadium.
For the record tonight, AEK moved level on 41 points with leaders and title rivals Olympiacos, who travel to Asteras Tripolis tomorrow night and could restore their three points margin ahead of the top of the table derby clash next weekend.
