AEK to play Trabzonspor in UEL playoffs
AEK will play Trabzonspor in the qualification playoffs of the 2019/2020 UEFA Europa League.
Last week, Trabzonspor had made a dramatic comeback in the Czech Republic to claim a vital 2:2 draw against Sparta Prague, and they subsequently completed the job today with a 2:1 victory on Turkish soil. In the first half, Alexander Sorloth opened the scoring, before Adam Hlozek equalised for Sparta in the second. The Czechs required one more goal to win the tie, but in the eighth minute of stoppage time, Filip Novak netted the game-winner for Trabzonspor:
AEK progressed by beating Universitatea Craiova 3:1 on aggregate.
On August 22, AEK will host the first leg in Athens (21:00), before the decisive second game against Trabzonspor takes place a week later at the Senol Gunes Stadium (20:30):
In the 2018/2019 season, Trabzonspor finished in fourth place of the Turkish Super Lig, six points behind champions Galatasaray. Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is currently playing his football with Trabzonspor.
