AEK Win but Fall Short on Aggregate
HANDBALL CHALLENGE CUP - FINAL (LEG 2)
|AEK||27 - 26||Potaissa Turda|
|(Agg. 49 -59)|
AEK’s men’s handball team lost on aggregate to Romania’s AHC Potaissa Turda in the final of the EHF Challenge Cup.
After losing the first leg 22-33 in Romania, AEK needed to overcome that deficit at home. Their attempt to come from behind and win their first European trophy in club history did not get off to a good start, as they were down 11-18 at halftime.
AEK were able to overcome this deficit in the second half and ultimately win 27-26. However, due to the aggregate score being 49-59 in favor of the Romanians, the Kitrinomavri and their 5,000 fans at OAKA in Athens would finish runner-up to the Romanians. Nevertheless, AEK fans should be proud of their team for reaching their first European final, especially considering that their previous best result in Europe was reaching the quarterfinals.
