Agia Sofia will be ready by the 2019/20 season
The general manager of Dikefalos S.A., Nikos Stratos, sat down with Greek newspaper “NEA” to discuss the developments regarding the long awaited Agia Sofia stadium in Nea Filadelfia.
The first stages of the new Agia Sofia stadium are underway with the site’s fencing currently taking place. The fencing will be covered with pictures of the stadium and AEK players in an effort to “hide” the new stadium while under construction from people passing by. Once the fencing is complete, construction work will begin.
Then the digging will begin which will set the stadium’s foundation and will be completed by November. According to Stratos, the estimated construction work will be two years and the ultimate goal is that AEK will be playing in Agia Sofia by the 2019/20 season.
The stadium will also be built to accommodate up to four teams that way small tournaments could be hosted as well. Agia Sofia will have 33 gates and a capacity of 31,800 seats, of which 31,000 will be available for fans and 800 will be reserved for the press.
