VAR to be used in Olympiacos - Krasnodar clash
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be used in the UEFA Champions League playoff clash between Olympiacos and Krasnodar at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
On Wednesday, VAR will make its debut at the Karaiskakis Stadium, as Olympiacos host FC Krasnodar in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs. UEFA had already stated that VAR would be used for all matches in the main competition (excluding initial qualifying rounds) during the 2019/2020 season.
VAR will also be used in all of the remaining five Champions League playoff ties.
Olympiacos will be hoping to keep their clean-sheet streak going against Krasnodar. This week, the Erythrolefki dispatched Basaksehir 2:0 in Piraeus, their fourth consecutive Champions League match this summer in which they didn’t concede any goals. Jose Sa has stood between the sticks for all four games, making a number of impressive saves along the way.
In the 2009/2010 season, Olympiacos also didn’t concede in four successive Champions League qualifiers:
Slovan Bratislava - Olympiacos, 0:2
Olympiacos - Slovan Bratislava, 2:0
Sheriff - Olympiacos, 0:2
Olympiacos - Sheriff, 1:0
