Anastasiou: “We must take advantage of our chances”
Both respective head coaches, Giannis Anastasiou and Aleksandar Vukovic, spoke to the media ahead of the second leg of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round between Atromitos and Legia Warsaw.
In the first leg, Atromitos managed to frustrate their Polish opponents in Warsaw, holding Legia to a gritty 0:0 draw. However, while that result was considered a positive outcome, Atromitos didn’t score an away goal and will have to be even more alert in defence if they are to prolong their European journey.
Giannis Anastasiou shared his expectations for the duel in his press-conference:
Chances of progressing after the first game: “We didn’t test Legia at all in Poland. However, at home, we have the chance to show our attacking potential. 0:0 is a tricky score, especially considering that Legia are yet to concede a goal in Europe this season. We have to be careful in defence and take advantage of the opportunities which come our way. This will be a very difficult game.”
Danger of conceding an away goal: “We have already shown that we can score goals in Peristeri. I am confident that we will be smiling after the match finishes. For their part, Legia understand what they need to do.”
Possibility of Atromitos attacking more: “A game lasts 90 minutes. We are trying to progress and we want to achieve something tomorrow. We have to be concentrated and make sure that luck is on our side.”
Legia weaknesses: “On Wednesday, we have to be a lot better in attack. We have been trying to improve during our training sessions. We must be focused on our target and do what is required.”
Legia manager Aleksandar Vukovic is expecting a tough game in Peristeri:
Thoughts after drawing the first match: “0:0 is not the result which we wanted to achieve at home. We know that Atromitos can play better here. Atromitos are very solid in defence, waiting for their chances on the counterattack. It’s very important for us to keep this in mind. We play our own game and we will continue doing this.”
Heat in Athens: “We’re happy because it’s also hot in Poland! Not like in Greece, but still. There is not a big difference. As far as I know, it is very difficult to finish fourth in the Greek championship. Taking into account that it’s too hard to finish in either first, second or third place in Greece, Atromitos won a mini-league by earning fourth place. This says a lot about Atromitos. They are very strong.”
Pressure on winning: “We have pressure in every game. Every match is the same, because we always want to win. We’ve learned to live with the pressure. Our goal is to play better than in the first match in Poland.”
