No one can stop the Greek Freak. This season, 24-year old Athens born Antetokounmpo has continued his rapid rise to the top in the NBA, averaging 26.5 points a game with 34 matches of the campaign in the books. On Thursday, Antetokounmpo tallied a huge 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists in a 112-96 victory over the New York Knicks, helping the Bucks rise to first place in the 2018/2019 regular season table with a win percentage of 70.6%.

There’s still a long way to go until the playoffs begin, but if the Bucks hang on to first position, they will win the NBA regular season for the first time since the 1973/1974 campaign when the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson and Bob Dandridge were in their squad. In that particular season, the Bucks claimed first place with a 70.2% win percentage, and they would eventually lose to the Boston Celtics in the playoffs final.

In the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors are the Bucks’ nearest challengers with a win percentage of 70.3%, while the Denver Nuggets, who lead the Western Conference, are on 66.7%.

The Bucks next play on Saturday evening against the Brooklyn Nets.
