In the weekend’s first derby, Anorthosis entertained the home crowd with a 3-1 win over 2nd placed Apollon. The hosts started the match much better and with goals from Herrero and Rayos took a 2-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, Apollon looked for a goal to get back into the game, however they were unable to pose a threat. Anorthosis tripled their lead with an own goal by Pelagias, before Papoulis pulled one back for Apollon shortly after. The visitors attacked for the remainder of the game, however Anorthosis held onto their significant victory which will boost the team’s morale. Apollon’s bad performance put them 7 points adrift the leaders APOEL before the two matchup during the week.

APOEL regained a comfortable lead atop the standings after a 1-0 win over their eternal enemies Omonoia. Ebecilio’s goal in just the 6th minute separated the sides at the final whistle. Omonoia’s best chance of the game came at the beginning of the second half with a great attempt by Christophi that was denied by the post. APOEL easily held their lead until the final whistle and took full advantage of Apollon’s defeat by regaining their 7 point lead in the standings. Omonoia are now in 5th place, 4 points behind 4th placed AEL.

AEL earned an important 2-1 victory over AEK in Limassol. The hosts opened the scoring early in the game with Spanish striker Arruabarrena before AEK’s equalizer just before half time through Florian Tolemes. Both teams showed energy and passion on the pitch but few chances were created by either side. However, Arruabarrena struck in second half stoppage time to shock the visitors and give AEL all three points, pulling them within just 4 points of their opponents in the standings. AEK saw the difference from 1st placed APOEL return to 9 points.

The opening game of the 2nd group between Doxa and Ethnikos Achnas produced 6 goals, in a 3-3 draw, and entertained the few fans that were present in the Makareio stadium. Ethnikos opened the scoring with Kipiani’s free kick early on and Doxa equalised shortly after with Braulio. Ethnikos regained the lead with an incredible rocket by Zelaya (15th goal of the season) before Doxa answered with two goals, from Eninful and Braulio turning the game around just before half time. However, the already jam-packed first half was not done there as Ethnikos equalised with Kyprianou just before the end of an incredible first half. The second half was much different, with both teams playing at a much slower pace and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. Doxa are still last in the group trailing Aris by 4 points while Ethnikos are 3rd, one point ahead of Karmiotissa.

Karmiotissa hosted Salamina and managed to earn 3 important points after their 2-0 win at home. Marko Adamovic gave the hosts an early lead, despite Salamina being the better side in the opening half. The second half did not produce many chances, however Poljanec doubled Karmiotissa’s lead to put the game out of reach for Salamina. Salamina are still 2nd in the group, trailing Ermis by 4 points, as Karmiotissa’s win gives them a 7 point cushion above the drop zone.

Ermis showed their dominance in the second group by defeating Aris 2-1. There was balanced play in the first half, but Aris managed to find the breakthrough with Rogerio Martins’ spot kick. Ermis equalized in the 2nd minute of the second half with Ibson De Melo’s impressive solo effort and Martynyuk’s free kick gave Ermis the comeback victory. Ermis continue to lead the group and are now 4 points above 2nd placed Salamina, while Aris saw Doxa cut the gap to four points.
