Lampropoulos signs for Deportivo, Alef joins APOEL
On Thursday afternoon, Deportivo La Coruna confirmed the signing of Greek defender Vasilis Lampropoulos, while Alef penned a loan deal with APOEL after spending the previous season with AEK.
Deportivo confirmed Lampropoulos’ signing with this official statement:
“Vasileos-Konstantinos Lampropulos (Βασίλειος Λαμπρόπουλος), (Pyrgos, Greece, 31 March 1990), is the first Deportivo signing of the 2019/2020 season. The Greek international centre-back comes from AEK Athens on a free transfer, and he has signed with Deportivo for the next two seasons.”
Lampropoulos is the first Greek player in history to sign for Deportivo.
In the 2018/2019 season, Lampropoulos only made 17 appearances for AEK, as he was ostracized from the team in November after a contract dispute. Lampropoulos consequently left AEK as a free agent this summer and opted to join Deportivo in the Segunda Division.
Deportivo missed out on promotion to La Liga this year after losing to Mallorca in the playoffs.
Overall, reliable centre-back Lampropoulos enjoyed five successful years at AEK after arriving from Panionios in July 2014, notably winning the Greek Cup and the Super League. Transfermarkt rates his value at 700,000 euros.
ALEF JOINS APOEL
Brazilian defensive midfielder Alef, who spent the 2018/2019 season on loan at AEK from SC Braga, has joined APOEL.
Reigning Cypriot champions APOEL released this announcement:
“APOEL Football Club announces the agreement with Sporting Clube de Braga for the one-year loan of Alef dos Santos Saldanha with a purchase option.
The footballer chose the number 95.”
In Athens, Alef played in 36 games for AEK, registering the two goals. This summer, AEK had the opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis from Braga, but the Enosis decided to let the 24-year-old go and APOEL subsequently pounced.
This will be the second time when Alef has played in Cyprus. Back in the 2017/2018 campaign, Alef played on loan at Apollon Limassol, competing in 36 matches for the club.
