AEK are heading back to the Greek Cup Final first time since winning the tournament in 2001 after a shock 73-69 win over Athenian rivals Panathinaikos at OAKA on Sunday.
Manny Harris scored 20 points to lead AEK to a thrilling derby win as Panathinaikos’ reign six-time defending Greek Cup Champions.
Nikos Pappas scored 14 points to lead all Panathinaikos scorers, while Nikos Calathes came an assist shy of a double-double with 10 points and 9 assists.
A game filled with lead changes, both sides struggled to pull away as the score-line shifted in control of either team before AEK established a 32-28 lead by halftime.
Panathinaikos would storm back in the third quarter with a 16-12 run to take back control, but that wouldn’t be the final lead change of the game.
In what was the highest scoring frame of the game, AEK put up 31 points in the final frame to reclaim the lead despite Panathinaikos still mustering up 25 points in the final ten minutes.
AEK now await the winner of the second semi-final between Olympiacos and Aris as the Enosi look to win their fourth Greek Cup in team history.
