Aris pair in Ethniki squad for first two Euro qualifiers

As previously reported on AGONAsport, Anastasiadis was unable to call upon the services of the injured Kostas Manolas (defender), Kyriakos Papadopoulos (defender), Panagiotis Retsos (defender), Vasilis Torosidis (defender), Konstantinos Stafylidis (defender), Lazaros Christodoulopoulos (midfielder) and Dimitris Pelkas (midfielder), but other key men such as Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Konstantinos Fortounis have been picked. In recent weeks, AEK duo Petros Mantalos and Anastasios Bakasetas have drawn heavy criticism from supporters, however they are in the squad.

Giorgos Valerianos and Manolis Siopis, who have been impressing with high flying Aris in the Super League, have been given a place in the team. There’s also room for Omonoia Nicosia wingers Charalampos Mavrias and Dimitris Kolovos.

Initially, Anastasiadis wanted to give Panionios forward Fiorin Durmishaj an opportunity in these games, but the required documentation from the Albanian Football Association didn’t arrive in time. Durmishaj previously represented Albania at U21 level.

Here is the full team for the maiden two UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers in March:

Goalkeepers: Vasilis Barkas (AEK), Alexandros Paschalakis (PAOK), Odisseas Vlachodimos (Benfica).
