Arsenal confirm Konstantinos Mavropanos transfer
In an historic transfer for Greek football, 20-year old Konstantinos Mavropanos has joined English giants Arsenal from PAS Giannina for a reported 2.1 million euros.

Arsenal, a club which boasts a proud tradition of signing young talents from around the world, saw something special in Mavropanos. He only made his debut for PAS Giannina in 2016, but he has impressed with brilliant performances to become one of Greek football’s brightest prospects. Since making his first appearance last year, Mavropanos has played in sixteen Super League matches.
On the club’s official website, Arsenal announced the news: “Young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has signed for us. The 20-year old centre back arrives from PAS Giannina, where he has made 16 Greek Super League appearances since breaking into the first team last season. We’d like to welcome Konstantinos to the club and wish him well for the future.”
However, it’s been documented that Mavropanos will immediately be sent out on loan, with Germany’s Werder Bremen expected to give him experience of top-level football. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has seen enough to sense Mavropanos’ potential, but he doesn’t feel that the young defender is ready to compete in the English Premier League at the moment.
Standing at 6 ft 4 in tall, Mavropanos is a commanding figure in defence. Possessing excellent aerial skills, he is a solid header of the ball and can strip opposing players of possession. Mavropanos doesn’t shy away from playing physical, making him a perfect fit for the Premier League in England. He has a knack of scoring some important goals too, finding the net on three occasions during the 2017/2018 Super League campaign. Mavropanos will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of famous Greek defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Kostas Manolas, players who both lead successful careers in Germany and Italy respectively.
