Athanasiadis’ scoring drought comes to an end


Stefanos Athanasiadis netted his first goal in Israel with Maccabi Haifa in his side’s 2-1 loss to Beitar Jerusalem. It is the striker’s first league goal in 513 days.

At last for Stefanos Athanasiadis… The former PAOK striker found the back of the net for the first time this season in the Israeli Premier League with Maccabi Haifa, in his side’s 2-1 loss away to Beitar Jerusalem. Athanasiadis came on as a substitute and deep into second half stoppage time, pulled one back for Maccabi Haifa with a powerful, well-placed header.

The goals marks an end to Athanasiadis’ league scoring drought that last a whopping 513 days. Athanasiadis’ last league goal came back on May 26, 2016 in PAOK’s 2-0 win over Panionios in the Greek Superleague (1 year, 4 months, and 25 days ago). Klaus’ is last goal in an official match was on January 11, 2017 in PAOK’s Greek Cup fixture against Panetolikos. 

After eight rounds of play in the Israeli Premier League (Athanasiadis has six appearances), Maccabi Haifa sit in 6th place with 11 points.
