Athinaiou joins Panathinaikos
Greek international Giannis Athinaiou has returned to his homeland by signing a one-year contract with EuroLeague giants Panathinaikos.
On Monday, Panathinaikos released this following statement:
“Panathinaikos OPAP BC has signed a contract with Giannis Athinaiou for one year.”
Last year, Athinaiou initially started the campaign with PAOK, before he transferred to Fos Provence in France where he registered an average of 6.5 points, 3.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 17 appearances. Athinaiou is in the Greek national team squad for the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.
In the past, the experienced 31-year-old guard has also played for the likes of AEK, Olympiacos and Aris.
Athinaiou shared his emotions from the move:
“I am very happy to join the great Panathinaikos family. I would like to thank both the coach and the president for the faith which they have shown in me. I promise that I will do everything to repay their belief. Everyone is aware of the targets which Panathinaikos have, and we will give 100% in every training session and match to achieve our goals. Argyris Pedoulakis has the ability to unite us all with his philosophy.”
