Atromitos’ Away Form Best In Super League
Atromitos’ climb to the top four of the Greek Super League and within two points of first place has been one of the stories of the season in Greece. A resolute backline and quality in attack have seen Damir Canadi’s men make their best-ever start to a season.
One of the biggest reasons for Atromitos’ success has been the team’s terrific away form. The Peristeri club have the league’s best away record through 15 matches. Canadi’s men have won five of their eight matches away, in addition to two draws and one narrow defeat to PAOK at Toumba.
And Atromitos have become the ‘away winter champions’ by going through a series of difficult matches on the road. There have been fantastic victories over AEK and Olympiakos, while also picking up wins in tough grounds such as Xanthi and Kerkyra. In the defeat to PAOK and the away draw to Larisa, it could be said that Atromitos were denied more in those matches based on controversial decisions.
The 17 points gained in away fixtures are four more points than any other team in the league. Should Atromitos continue with that sort of form then sustaining a title challenge will certainly not be beyond them.
