Atromitos give fans four-star sendoff
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 30
|Atromitos||4 - 0||Kerkyra|
Atromitos gave their supporters the end of season finale they deserved with a dominant 4-0 home win over relegated Kerkyra on Saturday to bookend perfectly what has been a memorable season for Damir Canadi’s side, while Larissa and Lamia shared the spoils of a 1-1 draw.
In Peristeri, Atromitos cruised to victory courtesy of a first-half brace from Nigerian forward Abiola Dauda (6, 14) and second-half goals from Kostas Kotsopoulos (59) and Nicolas Diguiny (67).
The Peristeri club end the campaign in fourth place, behind champions AEK, PAOK and Olympiacos, having given those aforementioned three clubs a real run for their money in a thrilling title race.
The reward is a place in the Europa League qualifiers for next season, and European football is now an exciting and real prospect for Canadi’s men.
|Larissa||1 - 1||Lamia|
|Deletic 84'||Tsoukalos 81'|
Meanwhile in Larissa, two clubs who have not covered themselves in glory this season but have neither disgraced themselves played out a 1-1 draw to end the campaign 11th and 12th respectively.
Nikos Tsoukalos put Lamia ahead in the 81st minute but that drew an immediate response from the home side with Milos Deletic levelling matters just three minutes later.
There were no further goals as both sides settled for a draw, which was probably a fair result based on the balance of play. Fans of both clubs will be happy that their teams have avoided relegation in what has been a hard slog of a season for them, but at the same time Larissa fans in particular will expect more from the Vissini players next season.
